It's not quite the Fiesta RS we'd been hoping for, but the blue oval has boosted its baby hot hatch with an upgraded ST200 revealed at the Geneva motor show.

Less than a week after Ford Australia confirmed high-performance Mountune kits will be offered locally for the Fiesta ST - and its larer Focus ST sibline - its European arm has released details of the ST200 that performs a similar job.

Using the same 1.6-litre turbo charged four cylinder, power has been increased by 13kW and torque has jumped by 50Nm to produce outputs of 147kW and 290Nm. Like the regular ST, which can generate the ST200's standard power figure on a temporary overboost function, the special edition model can jump to 158kW/320Nm under heavy acceleration during short bursts.

Its six-speed manual transmission has also been tweaked with a lower final drive ratio that, in conjunction with the added performance from the engine, lowers its ability to sprint from 0-100km/h by 0.2 seconds to 6.7 seconds.

Harnessing the additional power, the ST200's underpinnings have also been given some attention with the car riding 15mm lower than the standard model while the steering rack offers even more precision thanks to a sharper ratio. Ford says the ST200's electronic torque vectoring system and front suspension knuckles have been specifically tailored to the ST200's character while the car carries slightly larger rear brake discs too.

Inside the cabin, the ST200 has a unique plaque in the centre console, illuminated scuff plates and silver seat belts to highlight its status but is otherwise largely unchanged from the regular model.

Similarly, the exterior is visually identical with the exception of ST200 badges on the boot lid and red brake calipers behind dark 17-inch alloy wheels.

Ford Australia has yet to confirm whether the ST200 will be offered locally.
