Replacing the thermostat on a 2000 Ford Fiesta 1.25 zetec

I have a Year 2000 Ford Fiesta 1.25 zetec, which today started over-heating. I have checked a number of other threads and it seems that the likely problem lies with the Thermostat.

I have been out and bought a replacement one today, but I cannot find anywhere to tell me where the thermostat is located or how to replace it.

Hi I have the same issue. I was going to try and replace the thermostat myself. You're correct, the thermostat is underneath the alternator. I have a Haynes manual, but it doesn't say anything about how to remove the alternator etc. If I just unscrew the bolts holding the alternator on, will it just come out and on easily? Or do I have to be careful with the belt?

How do i find the thermostat on a ford fiesta zetec 1.25 to replace?

" First of all remove the auxillary drive belt splash guard (underneath engine) and remove auxillary drive belt (release tension by turning the nut in the spring loaded tensioner anti clockwise(13mm)). Now disconnect alternator wiring(remove batt term to prevent shorting against body) and remove alternator. Remove air filter box and the thermostat housing is now visible (Black plastic with two hoses attached) Disconnect hoses and remove housing via 4 10mm bolts. You are finally at the thermostat. "

Remember you will need code for radio after battery unhooked.
